What You Should Do If Bitten By a Stray Dog

August 3, 2022 by Big Leap

Being bitten by a dog can be a frightening experience, but it is even more so if it is a stray dog. You can’t talk to an owner to know the dog’s history, and you also may not have anyone to hold responsible for the incident. It’s important to know what you should do in this situation.

Stay Away from but Track the Stray Animal

After you’ve been bitten, you should do your best to stay away from the stray animal. It is also good to track the whereabouts of the animal. Keeping track of the animal is important for several reasons: First, you can determine if the dog has any illnesses that may affect you via the bite. You can also determine if it actually has an owner or if there is someone responsible for it. Additionally, tracking the dog can prevent it from biting or injuring anyone else.

Seek Medical Attention

Once bitten, you should seek medical attention. Doing so will enable you to address your injuries and prevent infection. And don’t procrastinate your trip to the ER–it is essential to take care of the problem early on and take steps to prevent it from getting worse. Because the dog is a stray, you don’t know its history. Therefore, seeking medical attention allows you to determine if the dog passed any diseases or infections to you. While receiving treatment, be sure to document your injuries. Documentation can be used in any legal cases you may wish to pursue.

Contact a Dog Bite Attorney

Most often, dog bite attorneys are contacted in cases where you are trying to hold an owner responsible for the behavior of their dog. With a stray, there typically is no owner. However, contacting a dog bite attorney may still help you. There are still cases where someone is responsible. For example, if someone was feeding or caring for the animal or allowing it in an area where you were bit, they could be held responsible for letting it roam free. Additionally, a dog bite attorney can help you qualify for proper compensation from an insurance company. Overall, it’s worth contacting an attorney to determine what actions you can take.

In summary, if you’ve been bitten by a stray dog, there are a couple of things you need to make sure you take care of: contain the animal, seek medical intervention, and document your injuries. Then, consider contacting a dog bite attorney. Following these steps will protect both you and others, as well as get you the compensation you need.

What to do if You are in a Motorcycle Accident

September 15, 2021 by Big Leap

Much like car accidents, motorcycle accidents can be frightening. There are several things you should do immediately after an accident for your benefit. Knowing what to do beforehand will help you to be more prepared.

Address Safety

The very first thing you should do is address the safety of everyone on the scene. When in a motorcycle accident, you are highly susceptible to injuries compared to when you are inside a car. You won’t be walking away unscathed. You should do your best to get yourself to a safe position and handle any injuries you can while on the scene. If you are able to, you should check on everyone else involved in the accident to make sure they are safe or at least in a position where they will survive until help arrives. At the very least, you should know everyone’s safety level even if you can’t do anything about it.

Call Emergency Responders

Once you’ve addressed everyone’s safety, you should call the emergency responders. Calling for medical attention should be one of your top priorities. Again, on a motorcycle you’ll likely see more injuries so getting medical attention quickly is important. In addition to medical services, you should also call the police. No matter what type of accident you are in, you need to call the police to file a police report. This report is important to you because it can help to establish fault. You can present this report to your insurance so they can see what compensation you deserve.

Contact Attorney and Insurance

After the accident, you need to contact your insurance. Present them with the police report so you can establish fault and then work towards getting your compensation. Your insurance can help you cover paying to repair your car, cover medical bills, and any other suffering you experienced. In some cases, insurance companies can be difficult to deal with and it can be hard to actually get compensation. In these cases, you should contact an attorney. Your attorney is familiar with these types of cases and they know how to negotiate with insurance companies. They can offer you the help that you need.

Any kind of accident can be scary and difficult to deal with. Understanding the process that should follow an accident can be extremely helpful. It may vary from case to case, but these steps should help you navigate any accident you are in.

What to Do After a Workplace Injury

July 14, 2021 by Erik

While there are measures taken to prevent them, workplace injuries still occur. If you have been injured on the job, it’s important that you know what steps to take next. Your actions will determine whether or not you receive any benefits.

File an Accident Report

Once you have been injured, it is essential that you file an accident report. This report will stand as evidence that the incident occurred. Without a report, your employer may claim that the injury occurred outside of work and you won’t receive any benefits. When you file a report, make sure you provide all the important details including how the injury occurred and what may have caused it. It may be in your best interest to have a witness present as you file this report and you should file it in writing. While this report is primarily a benefit to you, it can also provide your employer with information on how to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Seek Medical Attention

Obviously, if you are injured you should make sure you seek proper medical attention. It is also essential to do this as soon after the injury as possible. First, this helps you to recover faster and address the injury. Receiving medical attention quickly will also protect your rights as an employee. If you wait too long to receive vare, your employer can use it to claim your injury was not work related. The medical treatment you will receive also impacts your workers’ compensation, so you should be thorough in your treatment.

Understand Your Workers’ Compensation

If you are injured on the job, you are entitled to workers’ compensation. This compensation will cover any medical expenses and other effects of the injury. While you are entitled to this compensation, it’s important for you to understand it thoroughly. One of the main things to be aware of is what is actually covered by your workers’ compensation. For example, chiropractic services are not always covered. In some cases, it may be helpful to hire an attorney to help you navigate your workers’ compensation. Your attorney can make sure you are not rushed through the process and that you are receiving full benefits.

A workplace injury is very serious and you need to take action immediately. Doing so will help you to receive all the benefits you are entitled to. Make sure you understand everything you need to do after you’ve been injured.

If you have suffered a workplace injury, consider contacting an attorney.

How to Drive Safely to Prevent Truck Accidents

June 22, 2021 by Erik

Accidents involving large semi trucks can be extremely serious and often fatal. It’s important to know how to drive safely around these vehicles when on freeways and highways. Your actions can make a difference and prevent truck accidents.

Leave Plenty of Space

When driving around trucks, you need to remember to leave plenty of space. Specifically, you need to provide for enough time when you are driving around a truck. Trucks have a much slower response time than smaller vehicles. If you merge in front of a truck too quickly or without enough space behind you, the truck may not have enough time to slow down and it can cause a collision. Trucks also need a lot more space to take turns, so it’s best to provide plenty of space when driving around them. As a rule of thumb, only drive close to trucks as you are passing them and make sure you do so quickly.

Know the Blind Spots

In order to stay safe when passing or driving near a large truck, you should know the blind spots. Since trucks are so large and usually come with large trailers, they have a lot more blind spots than most vehicles. Obviously, one of the biggest blind spots will be directly behind the truck. This area can extend 30 feet. If they stop suddenly, your vehicle can quickly be crushed or even go under the trailer. There are also blind spots on either side of the truck. On the right side, this blind spot can cover two lanes of traffic. The blind spot in front of the truck exists because the cab of the truck is much higher off the ground. If you want to merge in front of a truck, make sure you can fully see the truck in your rearview mirror before merging to avoid the blind spot.

Stay Alert

Again, trucks have slower response times, require more room, and can easily cause a collision if the surrounding traffic is not paying attention. It is a good idea to stay alert no matter where you are driving or what types of vehicles you are around. Staying alert around trucks is especially important. When you are focused you can anticipate when a truck is merging or turning and this can help you stay safe.

No one wants to be the cause of or involved in a truck accident. They are very dangerous and can result in fatalities. The way you drive around trucks can help to prevent any of these serious accidents.

If you have been in a truck accident, reach out to a truck accident lawyer.
